Breeding Policies & Procedures

Healthy beginnings. Happy endings.

At Fruitland Creek Farms, we believe responsible breeding starts with love and ends with lasting partnerships — between our animals and the families who welcome them home. Every pairing is chosen intentionally to ensure healthy, well-socialized babies that reflect the best of their breed.

We raise all of our miniature donkeys, Highland cows, and micro cows right here along Fruitland Creek, surrounded by good pasture, gentle hands, and plenty of attention.

    Our Breeding Policy

    We breed for:

Health – Genetic soundness, proper structure, and strong, steady temperaments.

Disposition – Calm, friendly animals that enjoy human interaction.

Size & Type – True-to-breed minis and micros that are proportional, hardy, and happy.

Connection – Every animal is handled daily, halter-trained, and accustomed to people and other livestock before going home.

Our goal is to raise animals who are not just beautiful — but also easy to love and live with.

    Foaling & Calving Timeline

Donkey foals typically arrive 11–13 months after breeding.

Highland and Micro calves are generally due within 9 months of breeding.

Babies remain with their mothers for a minimum of 6 months before weaning and placement.

Each baby is halter-trained, friendly, and used to being handled before they leave the farm.

    Deposits, Payments & Pricing

Deposits are non-refundable but transferable to a future pairing within 12 months.

Remaining balances are due at weaning unless otherwise arranged.

We accept cash, check, or verified electronic payment.

Prices vary based on breed, size, markings, and lineage.

    Why we Sell in Duos

Donkeys and cows are herd animals by nature — they bond deeply and depend on companionship for emotional well-being. A single donkey or cow can become lonely, anxious, or depressed without a friend.

For this reason, we only sell animals in compatible pairs or to homes that already have suitable pasture companions. It’s one of our core values and a promise to the animals we raise.
